11 Best AI App Builders for Non-Technical Founders (2026)
Garrett Pierson
The best AI app builders in 2026 are Lovable for polished web apps, Replit for apps with real backends, and Bolt for fast prototypes — and every tool on this list gets you from plain-English description to working app for $50/month or less. Here are all 11 worth your time, ranked, with real pricing and the honest catch on each.
If you have an app idea and no coding background, this is the buyer’s guide we wish existed when we started. Every price below was checked against the vendor’s own pricing page this month, and two tools you’ll see on older lists are gone from this one — because one is being shut down and one no longer exists under its old name.

How we picked
We build with these tools — our own projects run through Lovable, Replit, Bolt, and Cursor, and the full stack we use is public. For this list we weighed four things: how far a non-coder can get alone, whether the free tier is enough to genuinely test the tool, what the plan you’d actually need costs, and whether you own the result (code export, no lock-in). Prices were verified on each vendor’s pricing page in July 2026.
1. Lovable — best overall for non-technical founders
Lovable is the strongest starting point if you’ve never written code and want your first version to look like a real product. You describe the app — or paste a screenshot or a Notion doc — and it generates a clean, professional web app with the database, login, and hosting handled for you.
Under the hood it builds on standard tools (React, Tailwind, Supabase), and you can sync the codebase to GitHub and own it outright. A developer can pick up exactly where you left off later.
- Pricing: free plan with roughly 30 build credits a month (drip-fed 5 per day); Pro from $25/mo.
- The catch: credits burn fast when you iterate by trial and error, and it’s web-only — no native iPhone app.
Choose Lovable when the look matters — you’re pitching investors or onboarding real users — and you want the shortest path to something that feels finished. We compared it head-to-head with the next two picks in Lovable vs Bolt vs Replit.
2. Replit — best for apps with real backends
Replit is the pick when your app is more than a pretty front end — it needs a reliable database, user accounts, or logic that has to work. Its AI Agent lives inside a full cloud development environment, so code, database, hosting, and deployment happen in one place. It scaffolds the app, runs it, reads its own errors, fixes them, and deploys to a live URL.
- Pricing: free Starter tier with limited daily agent credits and one published app; Core $25/mo ($20/mo billed annually).
- The catch: you’re working inside an IDE. There’s more on screen than Lovable’s chat window, and it feels a notch more technical.
Choose Replit when you’re building a real tool — a CRM, a booking system, an internal dashboard — and backend reliability matters more than pixel-perfect design.
3. Bolt — best for fast prototypes with control
Bolt turns a description into a working web app fast, and it hands you more of the technical decisions than Lovable does — starting with your tech stack. It runs entirely in the browser and automatically tests and fixes its own errors, which makes it excellent for getting an investor demo or user test live in under an hour.
- Pricing: free tier capped at 300K tokens/day (1M/month); Pro $25/mo.
- The catch: the free tier runs out fastest of the big three, and there’s no visual editor — every change goes through prompts.
Choose Bolt when you’re technically curious, want a say in how the app is built, and are validating fast rather than polishing.
4. Base44 — best all-in-one for total beginners
Base44 is the simplest serious tool on this list: describe the app, and it generates it with the database, login, and hosting already inside — nothing to connect. Wix bought it for roughly $80 million in 2025, so it has real backing, and it still runs as its own product.
- Pricing: free plan with 25 message credits/month and up to 5 apps; Starter $20/mo ($16/mo billed annually) — a cheaper entry than Lovable, Bolt, or Replit.
- The catch: less control and a smaller ecosystem than Lovable or Replit, and the credit meter matters — complex apps eat messages.
Choose Base44 when you want one login, one bill, and zero setup decisions on your way to a working internal tool or MVP.
5. v0 — best front ends, made to hand off
v0, from the team behind Vercel, generates the best-looking interfaces of any tool here — real production React/Next.js code from a text description. Designers and product teams use it to skip the blank canvas; founders use it to get a front end that doesn’t look AI-generated.
- Pricing: free tier with $5 of monthly credits; Plus $30/mo.
- The catch: it’s front-end first. You (or a developer, or another tool) still wire up the database and business logic behind it.
Choose v0 when you have technical help — or another builder handling the backend — and the interface is what needs to impress.
6. Bubble — most power without code
Bubble is the veteran no-code platform, and it can handle logic the prompt-first tools choke on — marketplaces, multi-role permissions, complex workflows. You build visually rather than by chat, and its AI features now help generate pages and workflows.
- Pricing: free tier for building and testing only (your app lives on a Bubble subdomain); Starter $29/mo billed annually ($32 month-to-month). Mobile app plans cost extra.
- The catch: the learning curve. Bubble is a skill you develop over weeks, and its workload-unit pricing takes attention as your app grows.
Choose Bubble when your app’s logic is genuinely complex and you’d rather invest a few weeks learning a deep tool than hit a wall in a shallow one.
7. Glide — best for turning spreadsheets into apps
Glide takes the spreadsheet your business already runs on and turns it into a clean, mobile-friendly app in an afternoon. It’s the fastest route from “our ops live in Google Sheets” to something employees or customers can actually use, and its AI agent now helps build apps from a description.
- Pricing: free tier to build with; Explorer $19/mo, Maker $49/mo.
- The catch: it’s built for data-driven tools, not arbitrary products — and usage-based “updates” pricing can add up on busy apps.
Choose Glide when you’re building an internal tool or portal and your data already lives in a spreadsheet.
8. FlutterFlow — best for true native mobile apps
FlutterFlow is the exception to this list’s biggest limitation: it builds real native iOS and Android apps you can submit to the App Store. It generates genuine Flutter code, with AI assistance layered onto a visual builder, and one-click deployment to both stores.
- Pricing: free tier (2 projects, limited AI generations); Basic $39/mo.
- The catch: it’s the most technical tool in the top eight. Expect a real learning curve — and remember Apple charges $99/yr and Google $25 once to publish.
Choose FlutterFlow when your product truly has to be a native mobile app. If a web app would do, the tools above get you there with far less effort — we walk through that decision in how to build an app.
9. Softr — best for client portals
Softr builds polished client portals and internal tools on top of Airtable or Google Sheets — and it doesn’t charge per external user, which is the quiet killer in portal pricing. Agencies and service businesses use it to give clients a professional login without building an app from scratch.
- Pricing: free plan (10 app users); Basic $49/mo.
- The catch: it’s purpose-built for portals and data apps. It’s the wrong tool for a consumer product, and the entry price is the highest on this list.
Choose Softr when you run a service business and want clients logging into something branded and professional this week.
10. Hostinger Horizons — best budget pick
Hostinger Horizons is the cheapest way on this list to go from prompt to a live app with hosting and a domain included in one bill. Paid plans start under $10/month (the Explorer plan lists at $9.99 and is usually discounted), which undercuts everything above.
- Pricing: free tier with 5 AI credits; the Explorer plan lists at $9.99/mo and is usually discounted, hosting and domain included.
- The catch: the AI credit allowances are small, and it’s a newer builder — expect less depth than Lovable or Replit when your app gets ambitious.
Choose Horizons when budget is the constraint and you want one cheap bill covering the builder, the hosting, and the domain.
11. Cursor — the power pick for founders ready to see code
Cursor is where founders graduate when they outgrow the prompt-to-app builders — a professional editor where AI writes real code you can watch and steer. It will build anything, which is exactly why it’s last on this list: it assumes you’re willing to look at files, errors, and deployments.
- Pricing: free Hobby tier; Pro $20/mo.
- The catch: it’s a developer tool. Version one of your app should probably come from a builder higher up this list; version two is where Cursor shines. Our best AI for coding guide covers this category properly.
Choose Cursor when your builder-made app proved the idea and you’re ready for full control.
What we left off — and why
Two names you’ll still see on older roundups didn’t make it. Firebase Studio is being sunset — Google has closed new workspace creation and points builders to its other tools, so starting a project there now makes no sense. Windsurf no longer exists under that name; it became Devin Desktop in June 2026. If a “best of” list still recommends either, the list is stale — and in this category, six months old is stale.
One more honest note: every tool here except FlutterFlow builds web apps, not native App Store apps. For most first products that’s the right call anyway — faster to ship, no store approval, one codebase — and how much it costs to build an app shows why the web-first path is so much cheaper.
Which one should you actually pick?
The categories matter more than the rankings — we explain the three types in our vibe coding tools guide. The short version:
- First app ever, want it to look great: Lovable.
- Real tool with data and logins: Replit.
- Cheapest full package: Base44 or Hostinger Horizons.
- Has to be in the App Store: FlutterFlow.
- Business runs on spreadsheets: Glide or Softr.
Whichever you choose, pick one and ship. The failure pattern we see most is tool-hopping — most of an app built in one tool, then a restart in another because of a YouTube video. Every switch resets your learning curve.
FAQ
Can these tools really build an app with no coding? Yes — a working web app with a database, logins, and payments is a realistic solo project on Lovable, Replit, Bolt, or Base44. What they can’t do is tell you whether the app is worth building or how to get users. That’s on you, and it’s the part that decides whether you make money.
What does it actually cost to build an app with AI? Plan on $20–50/month for the builder, plus small extras (a domain, maybe Stripe fees). Compare that to $19,200–90,000 to hire it out — the full math is in our app cost breakdown.
Are the free tiers enough to build something real? They’re enough to test — build a rough version, feel the workflow, decide if the tool fits. Every free tier here runs out under real iteration. Budget for one paid plan (~$25/mo) once you commit to an idea.
Do I own what the AI builds? Lovable, Replit, Bolt, v0, FlutterFlow, and Cursor let you export or sync real code, and Base44 adds GitHub sync on paid plans. Bubble, Glide, Softr, and Horizons keep your app on their platform — fine for most businesses, but worth knowing before you build something you may want to move.
The bottom line
Start with Lovable if you want polish, Replit if you need a real backend, and Base44 or Horizons if you’re testing an idea on a budget. Any of the 11 will get you a working app for less than a dinner out per month. The tool is the easy 10% — the idea, the launch, and the income are the other 90%, and that’s exactly what Software Secrets 2.0 covers. The whole book is free.
